Google, known to every netizen as the "perfect" search engine, does more than just searching. Programmers at Google Labs are constantly developing new software and tools that help you use the search engine and the rest of the web more efficiently. Usually, the Google Labs programs are centred around a service provided by Google but this time they have deviated just a bit.

Google Labs India has recently launched a service that provides updates and information directly to your mobile phone as an SMS. Google SMS Channels is free of charge with no strings attached. All you need to do is verify your mobile number (very much like the email address verification) and the service gets activated instantly. With this service, you can receive news, blog updates, stock quotes and much more on the go.

In case you are worrying about the spam that you might receive, Google lets you choose exactly what you want to receive and what you don't want to. You can subscribe to SMS channels from which you want to receive updates. By default, you are subscribed to no channel. If you want to stop receiving SMS from a particular channel, just unsubscribe from it. Simple, isn't it?

Apart from just receiving content, you can also distribute content by creating your own SMS Channels. Whenever an update is posted on your channel, all users subscribed to it will receive it as an SMS.
