Link Your Phone, Bring Voice to your Blog or Social Network

Posted by Siddharth Agarwal on Tuesday, June 12, 2007

All of us are aware of the innumerable advantages of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP not only allows us to make free PC to PC calls but also allows us to make very cheap international calls by eliminating the long distance or international toll charges charged by the phone companies. There are other services that allow linking of mobile phone to the web in different ways but you can now use VoIP to bring voice to your blog or social network by allowing your readers and fans call you without revealing your number.

Jaxtr takes the concept of VoIP a step further. When web 2.0 allows users to generate content and comment on others' works, why not allow them to verbally comment on your content? Jaxtr allows you to link your phone with it on which you can receive calls from your blog readers or your social network. Register with Jaxtr for free and add your mobile phone to route calls on it. This service, like others, is accessible using widgets. After registration, add the Jaxtr widget to your blog or social networking site. Your readers will not have to download any software or connect the headset to call you. They will just have to enter their phone number. Their phone and yours will ring after some time and the call will be connected using VoIP. In the whole process, your number remains private.

Jaxtr also allows to you to choose whose calls you wish to receive and whose you don't want to. Using the Jaxtr's "Privacy Shield" feature, all the calls from unknown users will go to your Jaxtr’s voicemail box until you approve that caller. Apart from voice calls, Jaxtr offers unlimited voice messages and unlimited text messages. Presently, Jaxtr is available in major metropolitan areas of 29 countries where it allows you to send up to 100 minutes per month of incoming calls to your phone. If you reside outside these countries, you will get a U.S. phone number which will act as your Jaxtr number otherwise you get a number closest to your residence.

If you are not a blogger or don't use social networking, you can still use Jaxtr to call someone living in a different country for local charges as long as you and your friend live in the covered 29 countries. Follow the same procedure to make international calls for charge of a local call.
