Share Information Quickly in Suitable Form without Blogs
Posted by Siddharth Agarwal on Saturday, April 28, 2007
Blogs are fast becoming popular for sharing information in real-time among people. Blogs have become distribution tools for distribution of information by companies about their products. They are convenient for the purpose but there are a few downsides. Blogs are difficult to set up and manage. They provide similar interface for different types of content (pictures, audio, video, feeds, etc are displayed in same style). Conventionally, blogs are supposed to contain detailed information which may not be required in all cases. If you are seeking to share textual information only, services like ShortText suffice as it provides convenient platform for sharing short messages. But, it is restricted to text only and cannot be integrated with other online resources.
Overcoming all these shortcomings of blogs, Tumblelogs help you share information quickly, in desired formats without much customization and are easy to set up and manage. Tumblelogs are also capable of integrating feeds from different sources for automatic updates. Tumblr is a friendly, free and really simple tumblelog providing service. You can create tumblelogs on free sub-domains (your-tumblelog-name.tumblr.com) provided by the service. Whenever you come across something interesting or wish to share information, just create a post on your tumblelog. Most important feature of Tumblr is that it provides different interfaces and presentation styles for different types of content. Hence, different content like audio and video will be displayed in different styles that suit them.
Tumblr also provides a bookmarklet which can be added to your browser. Just click on it to post the page being viewed currently on your tumblelog. Dynamic content like feeds can be integrated to a tumblelog. For example, you can integrate your Twitter page if you are a Twitter user. This way you can sharing information would be just an SMS away. Another notable Tumble feature, currently under testing, is the facility to upload content via e-mail or mobile phone.
