Google Code Search - Search Open Source Code

Posted by Siddharth Agarwal on Sunday, January 07, 2007

There were times when we were dependent upon a few firms for good quality computer softwares. Now, with the beginning of the era where people have aggressively participated to reduce this dependence, the internet is stuffed with open source programs which work as efficiently as a commercial software and even better. The open source public programs are available to the public for free with no restrictions.

With a huge number of programs around, it becomes difficult to tell between a good one and a better one. Moreover, it is quite difficult to search codes which can be compiled. Google Code Search comes to our rescue here. Google Code Search, still in its development stage, is the best tool available for finding public source code.

It works exactly like the google search but returns results with public source codes. Like google search, all you need to do is enter the name of the software you are looking for and press enter. You can also perform an advanced code search if you exactly know what you are looking for. The syntax and examples for the search string are also available for reference.
