Swivel - Share and compare data graphically

Posted by Siddharth Agarwal on Friday, December 29, 2006

In today's world, no netizen can do without the web 2.0 applications. Everyone needs social bookmarking services like del.icio.us for sharing bookmarks, photo-sharing sites like Flickr for sharing photos, online video services like Youtube for sharing videos and many alike.

With the rapidly changing web, sites like Furl and Tailrank emerged which allowed users to save complete web pages. The best part about the web 2.0 is that it has been absolutely free. So, why not a site which lets you take a step further in data sharing.

Swivel is a service which takes a step ahead and lets users share data, not just limited to pictures, audio or video. You can upload any data, explore it graphically and share it with other users. What basically happens is that any data you upload (usually in the form of spreadsheets) is converted in the graphical form providing a positive user experience and less frustration to explorers. A point worth noting is that if you want to keep your data private, as may be desired by businesses, you have to pay a monthly fee.

The feature that makes this site different from others is the 'Compare' tool. With this feature you can compare two sets of data graphically. For example, you can compare the world's stock markets with price of crude oil or your company's profit with inflation. Swivel also provides HTML code for embedding a graph on to your site so that you can comment on the data.
